The Academic Program
Academic Excellence …… The Teaching Tradition

The main aim of teaching at Modernage is student centered learning without any kind of physical or psychological pressure. Modernage aims to extend this tradition well beyond the classroom to encompass also the efforts of all those personnel attached with the student in some way or the other, and in effect the entire college community. The close contact with the faculty and the staff as they attend to the educational needs of individual students is perhaps the most important attraction of Modernage for the parents.  Modernage aims to well serve the student learning through this tradition.

Academic Breakup

The new session commences in the first week of March for all classes up to Matric and terminates in December while for the Intermediate level the session begins in April and terminates in March each year.

The academic year from Play Group to class 10 is split up into three terms of almost three months each.

First Term:       From 1st week of March till the end of May.

Second Term:   From 1st week of June till mid August.

Third Term:      From mid September till mid December.

There are two major breaks of the summer and the winter vacation during the session.

Special coaching classes for students of Matric and Intermediate are arranged during the winter break.

Orientation

The beginning of any new experience is both exciting and tension filled. Especially the phase of starting college in one’s life is regarded as a major transition. Modernage is concerned with giving the new students the best possible introduction to campus life.

For this purpose special orientation sessions are organized for the new Modernites. In the school side, the New Student Orientation is held in March on the first day of the academic year. The new students are given an opportunity to meet their classmates and to get a know how of the services available at Modernage. They are guided briefly about the courses of study and the concerned academic staff.

In the college section, the New Student Orientation is held in May prior to the proper commencement of classes. These first days are reserved for learning about the abundance of resources and services available on campus. The students have an opportunity to meet with the faculty, to review their academic goals and to ensure proper placement and registration in classes. In addition they learn about life as a college student and meet other boys and girls who will be their classmates and peers during the two coming years at Modernage.

Besides, special orientation sessions are also arranged in August for the college students who join classes at a later stage.

Curriculum……. A brief outline

The commitment of Modernage is to provide quality education that broadens the vision of the students at one hand and makes them sound academically at the other. This commitment greatly influences the curriculum of the institution. Our curriculum is designed to develop virtue and good character in our students, as well as to develop their mental capacities. It aims to produce responsible citizens who can contribute constructively in the society, who can appreciate and understand the intrinsic value of arts and sciences, who have the ability to think critically and to communicate thoughts in a clear and persuasive manner.

For the junior classes up to class 8 the syllabi are prepared and reviewed on yearly basis according to our needs and requirements as stated above. For Matric and Inter level all the books prescribed by the Abbottabad Board are being used. The students are instructed to use reference books and other resource materials to promote conceptual learning and research oriented approach.

Religious Education

An understanding of religion and its historical significance is an essential element of education. Its study contributes to ones understanding of human society and ultimately of one self. At Modernage, Islamiat is taught as a compulsory subject for all Muslim students. The morning assembly opens with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by its translations in Urdu and English. On all occasions of religious importance, the opportunity is taken to organize such activities that will promote tolerance and spirit of mutual understanding in the students as individuals. As mentioned earlier, the prayers are offered regularly in the Ali Muhammad Mosque. Full time Qaris teach Hifz and Nazra to the students.

House System & Co-curricular Activities

Co-curricular activities are an important part of a successful educational system. These activities give a positive and healthy direction to the immense energies and potentialities of the young students.

Modernage proudly conducts a number of co-curricular activities all through the year. An elaborate system of Houses is being run in the institution. The entire college has been divided into six senior and four junior houses. Through this division an extremely healthy competition is generated. A number of events like debates, dramas, singing, painting, speeches, fancy dress shows, etc are initiated through the houses. A complete detail of all these events is available in the yearly Schedule of Activities.

Students are assisted and supported in the planning and execution of these activities. Certain programs are conceived and organized by the students themselves as well. These educational, social and cultural programs enable Modernage to raise leadership qualities, spirit of co-operation and understanding and an awareness of cultural diversity among the young Modernites. They provide the entire college community not only a chance of participation but also of developing friendships. The participants are hence allowed to interact and learn at a rich forum and then continue it throughout life. The students are taught to bear in their minds that an individual’s skill level is not as important as the desire to participate and enjoy.

Games & Sports

Modernage aims to achieve excellence in sports and athletics. Students are given chances to participate in sporting events for personal enjoyment, the love of competition and healthy exercise. These activities polish the hidden capabilities of students.

There are teams of various games like badminton, squash, table tennis, lawn tennis, cricket, hockey, football, hand ball, net ball, basket ball and volley ball. These teams participate in inter house and inter college events. A special team of trained physical instructors and coaches is available at all times to provide assistance to the students participating in various events. Besides students are also encouraged in Karate and athletics.

Modernage has a strong tradition of competing with some of the best teams in the Abbottabad District and N.W.F.P. Modernage participates in all the competitions arranged by the Abbottabad Board and various other organizations. Our students come out with flying colours and take top positions in many events.

Modernites…………….A Periodical Tabloid

The need to bridge the communication gap between the parents in particular and the community in general was being felt for a long time. This gap has now been filled in by the issuance of the periodical tabloid ‘Modernite’ of the college. Not only has it proved a successful means of communication but also it has provided the students an effective forum to express their views. The tabloid is being brought out on terminal basis at present. It publishes the important events, news items related to Modernage, successes, achievements, contributions of students and teachers, interviews of educationists and many other items.
